What is feedback?
Feedback is information about performance that allows a person to change
their bx

What is the difference between feedback and performance?
Performance is bxs, tasks, and results that produce a specific outcome

Feedback must be combined with a consequence if change has to take place.

Combination of Sr+ and feedback have been proven to be effective in
improving performance across a variety of applications.

People often use terms information and data to mean feedback.

If information does not tell the learner which bx to change, then info is
not feedback.

What are the 2 components that performance feedback must have?

Tells the performer where they stand relative to some target goal.

The performer must know what to do to improve.

It is a natural part of out existence, is it essential to learning

Feedback deficiencies are a major contributor to virtually all problems of low
performance

A great deals of what is assumed as feedback as just mere info.


Learning is a relatively change in bx as a result of the
individuals experience, i.e., reinforcement, punishment,
extinction, etc. Behaviour occur is learning.

What is biofeedback?
Process of providing patients with real-time data on their physiological
functioning
Typical measures: heart rate, blood pressure, skin temperature, and muscle
tension.



💡 Biofeedback promotes survival. Performance feedback promotes
adaptation.


Why do most people think that feedback does not work?

 People cannot differentiate feedback from information and data.

 And, they don't understand the conditions that make feedback most
effective.

According to Balcazar et al. 1985.

 Feedback alone does not uniformly improve performance.

 Adding rewards and or goal setting procedures to feedback improves the
consistency of its effects.

 Some characteristics of feedback are more consistently associated with
improved performance than others.
