Course Description
This course focuses on advanced physiology and pathophysiology principles. This course is used to guide the advanced
nursing practice student in understanding normal function and interpreting changes in normal function that result in
symptoms and diagnostic markers indicative of illness. Emphasis is placed on the following systems: cellular
environment and inflammatory changes; fluids, electrolytes and acid-base balance; genetics, genetic diseases, and the
role of the environment; stress, disease, and the development of neoplasms; hematology and alterations in immunity. In
addition, the physiology and pathophysiology of the endocrine, pulmonary, renal, digestive and integumentary,
cardiovascular and lymphatic, musculoskeletal, reproductive, and neurological systems, including mood disorders, are
addressed. Prerequisite: Admission to the graduate nursing program or college approval.

NUR-631 Course Objectives
Description:
By the end of the course, the student will:
1. Examine evidence-based research to explain the pathophysiological changes associated with patient case studies
of pathophysiological processes.
2. Describe the relevant findings of diagnostic or other clinical and laboratory evaluative studies as they relate to
pathophysiological processes.
3. Describe the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and manifestations of common disease processes for the
systems of the body.
4. Apply diagnostic reasoning to develop differential diagnoses.

, Steps required:
1. Create an account with ProctorU at https://go.proctoru.com.
2. Schedule the designated exam affiliated with your course.
3. Choose the best time/day for you and your schedule during the assigned timeframe (7 days)
of the required test.
4. After you have registered, do not open the test link in the classroom until you are connected
with the Proctor. If the test link is opened, accidentally or intentionally, the grade for the test
will result in a 0.
5. If the exam is assigned and taken during the last week of the course, consider the possibility
of uncontrollable variables, such as IT/technology issues, that may require extra time in case
the test has to be rescheduled. There will be no allowances or exceptions made if the course
ends and the exam was interrupted or not completed by the closing of the class.
6. If a test needs to be rescheduled it must be done 72 hours prior to the initial test time chosen
in ProctorU's calendar or there will be an additional fee involved at the student's expense.
Additionally, review the test-taker resource center, instructional attachments, and the test policy
located in the University Policy Handbook. You should expect the startup process with the proctor to
take about 10–15 minutes (this time will not affect your exam time). You may direct any questions to
your faculty and program lead, along with the student support team, via the live chat within your
account.

Course Description
