1.1 Write a PARAGRAPH about what you think whole-class discussion is. [10]
Explain in your own words. Do not plagiarize. Define whole-class discussion (2). Give examples of successful (2) and unsuccessful (2) class
discussion when you were a student. Substantiate why these memories are considered successful (2) and unsuccessful (2).
→ Whole class discussion is when all the students in the class participate in conversations,
sometimes divided into groups (small or large). Students deliver their own opinions and ask
questions, this way the students can improve their knowledge and understand the topic more.
They should also let others give their opinions, listen to each other and respect the choices they
make. Everyone would get their turn to say or ask something.
When I was in high school we had plenty of successful class discussions, like that one time in
maths we all participated in groups (students from 1-4) to solve problems the teacher gave us to
prepare for the exams. Also when we had EGD (Engineering Graphics and Design) we had a
successful class discussions, we participated in a short conversation about new work we did not
do before to test our knowledge.
I am saying that this was a successful class discussion, because “we” as a class gave our opinions
to each other, respect each other, listen to each other and did not judge the choices one
another made. We learned from one another and understand each other more.
Unsuccessful class discussions I had in my life was when I was in the primary school. We had
technology, when we were working on a project and everyone had their own ideas, fighting with
each other, did not respect the choices everyone made and did not lead to any successful marks
and conclusion. Also when we had Natural Science, it was a practical that we did, and students
did not have the required items because they could not afford them, so there was leaners
judging them and said bad stuff to them. In this situation students got bad marks from not
wanting to participate in the practical anymore, just because they were made fun of.
1.2 List five reasons why discussion is important in the classroom. [5]
Five reasons why discussion is important in the classroom Explain in your own words. Do not
plagiarize.
It can help the teacher to see whether to students understand the work or not.
