Abstract
The two articles outline different reports on how adversity during the early days of a child's
development affects the future. In the first, the paper examines how difficulties during the early
days of a child's life undermine self-regulation elements. According to Carroll, interference with
self-regulation leads to inferior academic performance. Therefore, the first article explores the
correlation between environmental difficulties in academic achievement. The study concludes
that children who encounter environmental challenges in their first few months are likely to
underperform in school. In the next phase, the paper evaluates Luke and Banarjee’s (2011)
article. The experiment of this the second piece ascertains that maltreatment of children leads to
difficulty in establishing peer relationships and self-perception. The paper concludes with a
popular post drawn from the second article. The post provides that physical abuse and neglect
lead to difficulties concerning peer relations and self-prejudice.
