1 Electrical Circuits and Calculations (6 marks)
A group of students is studying electrical circuits in their physics class. They set up a
simple circuit with a battery, switch, and two lamps.
a Draw a circuit diagram of this setup in the space below. Use the correct symbols
for each component. (3 marks)
b The students measure the current flowing through one of the lamps as 0.25 A.
If the lamp has a resistance of 24 Ω, calculate the voltage across the lamp.
Use the equation V = I × R. (2 marks)
c The students notice that the ammeter they are using has the following scale:
6
What is the current reading shown on this ammeter? (1 mark)

2 Electrical Circuits and Calculations (6 marks)
A group of scientists is investigating the magnetic fields produced by electric currents.
They set up an experiment using a straight wire passing through a piece of card.
a The scientists have various objects available for their experiments. Match each object
to its correct description by drawing lines between them. (2 marks)
Plotting compass needle Permanent magnet
Wooden ruler Temporary magnet
Nail in a current-carrying coil Non-magnetic
b The scientists pass a current through the wire as shown in the diagram below.
i On the diagram, draw one magnetic field line to show the shape of the magnetic
field produced by the current. (1 mark)
ii Add an arrow to the field line you have drawn to show the direction of the magnetic
field. (1 mark)
