Methods (C815) – VVM1 Task 2: Quality
Improvement Plan
, 2
A: Quality Improvement Project
In order to initiate a high-quality improvement project, Lauren must identify the root causes of
the issues at hand. Patients are currently unable to complete full therapy sessions due to delays in
transportation by an understaffed and overworked nursing department. This situation has resulted in
incomplete treatments, reduced care quality, and decreased revenue for the facility. Lauren needs to
meticulously gather and document data, presenting it to the center for approval. Once approved, it
should be documented in written form, detailing the facility's standards and expectations. This
documentation serves as a blueprint for the facility to follow, and continuous monitoring is essential to
ensure that the necessary changes are implemented.
A1: Areas of Focus
The three key areas of focus include staff shortages, delayed patient arrivals that lead to
incomplete therapy sessions, and issues with work schedules.
A1A: Types of Data Gathered
Lauren should address this problem by employing both qualitative and quantitative data.
Qualitative data involves assessing the quality of services, which cannot be measured but must be
observed. In the present context, Lauren can obtain qualitative data by consulting with Tom, Karen, and
the nursing department manager to gain insights into the core issues. Quantitative data, on the other
hand, can be measured and quantified. In this scenario, Lauren can collect quantitative data by
designing a survey, meeting with discharged patients, and gaining insight into the quality of services
provided.
A1B: Data Gathering
Qualitative data can be collected through interviews with Tom, Karen, and the nursing
department manager. One-on-one meetings would provide an opportunity to gain insights into the root
causes of the problems and their impact on patient care. They can also offer ideas and
