1. Tense
Tense shows the time of an action. There are three main tenses: Present Tense, Past Tense, and
Future Tense.
Types of Tense:
• Present Tense – action happening now. Example: I read a book.
• Past Tense – action already finished. Example: I read a book yesterday.
• Future Tense – action that will happen. Example: I will read a book.
2. Parts of Speech
Parts of Speech are the basic types of words used in English.
• Noun – name of a person, place or thing.
• Pronoun – used instead of a noun.
• Verb – shows action.
• Adjective – describes a noun.
• Adverb – describes a verb.
• Preposition – shows relation.
• Conjunction – joins words or sentences.
• Interjection – shows feeling.
3. Sentence
A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense. Example: She is reading a book.
4. Types of Sentences
• Assertive Sentence – makes a statement.
• Interrogative Sentence – asks a question.
• Imperative Sentence – gives order or request.
• Exclamatory Sentence – shows strong feeling.
