Case 4 : “How do we keep balance?”
LG1: Introduction to Balance
Equilibrium is a state of balance
- ion concentrations in body fluids
- the position of the body in space.
Equilibrium has two components:
1. a dynamic component that tells us about our movement through space
2. a static component that tells us if our head is not in its normal upright
position.
Sensory information from the inner ear + from joint and muscle
proprioceptors tells our brain the location of different body parts in
relation to one another and to the environment.
Vision plays also a crucial role
in maintaining balance!
