Saiful Islam Assigment 2 Cardiovascular and Respiratory system

Report

The cardiovascular system made up of the heart and circulatory system works as a provider
that gives blood to the organs, tissues, and cells of the body. The organs are worked by
blood being transported through the vessels providing for the body and also carrying
nutrients and oxygen to tissues such as muscle and removing carbon dioxide also known as
gas exchange and other wastes e.g. urine.

Heart and its components:
The heart is an empty well-built organ with every heartbeat providing blood throughout the
body, supplying oxygen and nutrients to every cell. Every day approximately the heart beats
over 100,000 times and 5 liters of blood in the body is transported to provide for us by
pumping blood throughout the body, traveling about 60,000 miles connecting the cells of our
organs and body parts.
The heart is a key organ in our system as its role is it move blood throughout the body.
Information is sent to the heart from the body that then decides if to pump more or less blood
depending on our needs. E.g. when exercising the heart pumps more blood than usual to
provide for the extra oxygen needed by our bodies when at work. There are three layers in
the heart; known as the endocardium, myocardium and epicardium. The endocardium is the
narrow membrane which is the outside covering layer of the heart. The myocardium a strong
central coating wall of the heart and the tissue of the heart and is also the thickest surface.

The heart contains four chambers surrounded by thick, muscular walls: in the lower heart the
right and left Ventricles, and in the upper heart the right and left Atria. The pulmonary veins
provide oxygenated blood from the lungs so In the left atrium blood is being collected going
back to the heart from the pulmonary veins. These veins are expanded from the left atrium to
the lungs and bring back oxygen (blood) which then goes to the heart. The role of the right
atrium collects deoxygenated blood coming back to the heart from the superior and inferior
vena cava. The right ventricle transports blood into the pulmonary circulation to the lung. The
left ventricle also transports blood but into the systemic circulation.
