How to Study For a Maths Test
I’ve learned a number of helpful tips from the video that I will use when preparing for my
next exam. I now realize that organizing my study guide better is very important. Rather than just
writing down random notes, I will write down the formulas I need to learn, keywords to help me
remember and a clear guide for solving different kinds of problems.
I will use these steps to make sure I know how to handle every type of question from
beginning to end. I will also make notes to myself about the usual mistakes I make such as
forgetting units, changing the sign of a number or missing out on a step in a complex problem.
Reading these notes will help me remember not to make the same mistakes during the test.
One of the most useful takeaways from the video is the "READ/PLAN/DO" framework. I
found out that I struggle most when I’m planning which is often the first phase. I tend to skip the
planning and go right to solving the problem. After reading a question, I will take a moment to
ensure I know what it is asking. I highlight important terms, determine the type of problem and
quickly write out the steps before starting to solve. It will help me solve problems in a more
orderly and unhurried way.
I will also add detailed solutions to the problems I have trouble with in my study guide. I
will add notes to these with important strategies to help me remember the steps. Using these
examples will help you remember the concepts and be useful when you review.
Using these methods, especially by being more thoughtful in my studying, will help me
do better and stay consistent on my exams. Now, I am using this method to work on solving
problems, rather than just reviewing notes which is the main aim of good preparation.
