Strengths:
- There are measurable academic goals explicitly explained on how to meet them.
- The use of high-quality instructional materials is addressed.
- The communication of who is responsible for each task is clearly stated.
- There are several areas that will require evidence and data.
- There is a timeline for when to meet each goal.
Weaknesses:
- The use of the high-quality instructional materials doesn’t leave a lot of time for
teachers’ best practices and students’ best interests to be utilized.
- The numerous practice standardized tests will leave less time for instruction.
- It will take a lot of after-school hours and/or teachers’ planning time to be able to
participate in the numerous trainings and meetings mentioned.
Opportunities:
- Educating parents/families on attendance policies and procedures will help them
understand the importance of their children coming to school each day and lower
the chronic absenteeism rates.
- Classroom teachers will incorporate the WIDA standards into their plans to meet the
needs of ELs, which will increase their scores.
- Curriculum training and professional development will help teachers utilize high-
quality instructional materials to benefit the students and increase scores.
- Hosting ‘New Teacher Orientation” will increase teacher performance.
- Participating in instructional walkthroughs with feedback will increase teacher
performance.
Threats:
- The students not being engaged and retaining the information that is taught.
- Parents are spending less time in their child’s school.
- The elementary students can’t drive themselves to school, so they are dependent on
someone getting them to school each day.
- The lack of funding for the training and materials that are essential to teachers’
success with high-quality instructional materials.
- The lack of time to complete training, professional development, and necessary
meetings for teachers to improve.
- Lack of funding for new technology to replace the outdated and not working
technology that is used for assessing.
