Accurate Answers
Abstract nouns correct answer Are used to identify an idea or quality. Examples:
Truth, Danger, Beauty, intelligence, and adventure.
She always had a passion for adventure.
The judge only wanted to know the truth.
Adjectives correct answer Are used to give us more information about nouns and
pronouns. They're describing words like colors, sizes, quantities, numbers,
nationalities, etc.
Adverb correct answer describes a verb, adjective, or another adverb. most
adverb end in -ly, such as fairly, slowly, quickly, etc.
Apostrophe correct answer Two general uses: to show ownership and to
represent a contraction.
If a noun is singular, we add to show ownership.
Ex: Stacy's bike was stolen last week. The boss's desk is always organized.
If a noun is plural, we only add an apostrophe.
Ex: The boys' favorite game is street hockey.
,We also use apostrophes to represent missing letters in contractions such as
didn't (did not), isn't (is not), it's (it is), and can't ( can not)
Capitalization correct answer Always capitalize proper nouns. When I went to
Washington D.C., I visited the White House.
Capitalize directions only when they refer to a specific region. I live in the
Northeast.
Capitalize words in a book and movie titles, but not small articles or prepositions,
Names, Nationalities, and languages.
Clauses correct answer Are Parts of a sentence that have both a noun and a verb.
Independent & Dependent Clauses Keep in mind that we can switch the position
of the clauses, but we must remove the comma.
Example (both): It was still dark outside when Sandy woke up.
Colons correct answer Have Three main functions:
Introducing a list
1.) I still need to pack the following items; Example-toothpaste, hairspray, shoes,
and socks.
2.) Between two main clauses when the second one explains the first:
Example-I only have one rule in this classroom: respect the opinions of others.
3.) Before a title or quotation Example- The title of the article read: 'Family of
Three Has Close Encounter with Cougar'.
, Commas correct answer Are used within a sentence rather than at the end. They
have several different uses.
Used after an independent clause, phrases, or clauses, and after independent
clause that's followed by but, for, nor, or, so, and, or yet.
To separate phrases or clauses that aren't essential to the sentence
To separate two adjectives describing the same noun (numbers are an exception)
Ex: "The only thing Nina wanted was a cold, refreshing glass of lemonade.
