1. DM Type 1 correct understanding of teaching
a. Don’t exercise if insulin is at peak
b. Check levels before exercise should be 100-250
2. Plan of care for T1DM
a. Take insulin
b. Good for 30 days once opened, can be left out
c. Monitor signs and symptoms (ESSENTIAL TO DO)
i. How to monitor T1DM
1. HbA1C (3 months)
ii. Neuropathy and Retinopathy
1. Retinopathy- Eye exams annually
2. Neuropathy- Check feet daily
iii. What to tell a patient with diabetes if they feel anxious
1. Check blood sugar, may be high or low
2. Monitor signs and symptoms
3. Teaching new nurse about insulin
a. Check levels before administering
b. Insulins that can and can’t be mixed (Nancy Reagan, RN)
