MAYDAY, requires immediate response
Electronic Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) - ANSWERS-
Can provide location accurately within 1-3 NM
406 MHz
Requires same response as a MAYDAY
3 general rules when Coast Guard assists in non distress situations -
ANSWERS-The first responder normally provides assistance
Coast Guard and the Auxiliary tow to nearest safe haven
Once a tow is undertaken, there is no requirement to break the tow
Hoax - ANSWERS-Conveyed with intent to deceive
Auxiliary towing non distress - ANSWERS-Can tow at its coxswains
discretion, keep SMC informed
, Coast Guard General Salvage Policy - ANSWERS-Should engage in
salvage other than towing when:
No commercial salvage is on scene
Limited salvage can prevent a worsening situation or complete loss
of the vessel
