Discussion Thread: Evangelism and the Gospel
Part One: Anthropology of the Gospel.
Essentials of the Gospel Message – When discussing the Gospel message, it is important to
understand that God created all things. This includes the creation of mankind which He created
in His image. It was humanity that rebelled against God that allowed sin to be introduced into the
world (the fall). Once sin separated mankind from God, He made it clear that He had a clear plan
of redemption that would come about. That plan was identified in the Book of Genesis “And I
will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall
bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” (Gen. 3:15, New King James Version). The
passage in Genesis is a foreshadowing of the virgin birth of Jesus Christ as the “seed of a
woman” who eventually crushes satan under his foot.1 The Gospel Message is the Good News of
God’s redemption and reconciliation plan through Christ Jesus. The gospel is presented here in
its most fundamental form; yet, there are more categories that we need to comprehend to have a
thorough understanding of the message that the gospel conveys. As a result of the gift of
redemption, we have been converted from the powers of evil into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ,
the Son of God. Although the death and sacrifice of Jesus paid the price for our sins, his
resurrection ensured that we would be redeemed, showered righteousness upon us, and promised
believers that they would inherit eternal life.
Repentance of sin is the acknowledgement on the committing of sin and deciding to turn
away from it. Repentance is the inward change of mind, feelings, convictions, and commitment
based on the individual’s reverence for God and the “Godly sorrow felt for offenses committed
against Him.”2 It is essential in obtaining salvation. The recognition of humanity's sinful nature
is the primary impetus for relinquishing the imperfect human will. Following acknowledgment
and repentance, the submission of our will to Christ's authority is essential for embracing Him.
One must surrender their will and desire to Jesus Christ, recognizing and believing that His will
and desires are superior, as well as sacred and authentic.
The gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ, more precisely the fact that God, through his Son,
gives redemption and reconciliation to people all over the world. Specifically, it focuses on the
life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, as well as the ways in which these events influence the
connection that people have with God. The essential aspects of the Gospel include:
A. The Creation - With the intention of establishing a relationship characterized by love
and harmony, God created a flawless planet and humans in his image.
