Failing (0.0) INDUSTRY MID-TERM PAPER AND FINAL PAPER This semester, you will submerse yourself in a particular industry. Your chosen industry must be approved by your instructor by the second week of class September 27, 2023. Different industries experience “the legal environment” differently. Issues that are of utmost importance in the grounds transportation industry are much different than issues of utmost importance in the medical or restaurant industry. Some industries such as pharmaceutical, medical or restaurant industries help shape, and respond to, legislation and administrative rules. Whereas others may not have as much influence of these rules. For the midterm paper you will find and gather information about legal issues that are important in the industry you choose. Then, you will prioritize the issues, organize your research, and engage in writing a 2- 3 page paper regarding why these issues are important and how and why you prioritized these issues according to what is most pressing to the selected industry. Your paper should provide an overview of the legal and regulatory environment in your industry. It should also outline two to three significant legal issues from the perspectives of at least two different stakeholders (e.g., shareholders, employees, customers, managers, communities, and future generations). The Mid-semester paper will be worth 20% of your course grade. The final paper you turn in toward the end of the semester will also be worth 20% of your course grade. The Mid-semester paper you would have worked on earlier in the semester will set the stage for you to write the final paper. The final paper will be a minimum of six, double- BUS 230-Q01 – Business Law – Dr. Michelle Whitmore – Page 4 of 15 spaced pages in length. The paper will give you an opportunity to summarize what you have learned about legal issues that affect the industry you selected and why these issues are important to the industry as a whole. You must also address if these legal issues shape, and/or respond to legislation and administrative rules. All papers must follow APA format. Grading rubrics for all assignments will be posted on Canvas. MUSIC INDUSTRY
Music Industry

The music industry is one of the heavily regulated fields. Some regulations ensure

different stakeholders, like artists, engage in ethical issues, including production, streaming, and

performing. The paper gives an overview of the music industry's regulatory and legal

surroundings and critical legal issues in this field, including the stakeholders they affect.

Overview of the Legal and Regulatory Environment in the Music Industry

The music industry is crucial and runs under a comprehensive regulatory and legal

framework covering multiple areas, including royalties, copyright law, contracts, intellectual

property rights, and licensing. These vital laws ensure fair compensation and payments to

producers, creators, musicians, and artists for their jobs. They also ensure that people and

stakeholders use music lawfully and ethically (Mbanugo, 2021). The critical regulation is

copyright law, which gives creators exclusive ownership and rights to utilize their music and

artistic work, including reproduction, licensing, distribution, and performance. These are very

crucial legal issues in the music industry.

Prioritizing the Legal Issues and Why These Issues Are Important Worth Focus

There are several crucial legal issues to consider. The first is right infringement. It

involves using artistic work like music or videos without the owner's authority through digital

streaming, copying, and sampling. Such practices might contribute to legal actions like copyright

lawsuits (Miller, 2023). It is a common issue due to the increased use of digital media such as

YouTube and streaming platforms like Spotify. The issue is pressing because of its direct impact

on the ownership of artistic work, which, when lost, will contribute to huge losses in financial

terms. It may also destroy artists' reputations.
