INTRODUCTION
It is critical for Health and Human Service Workers to understand the ethical standards within healthcare
and their significance in advocating for diverse populations and vast family dynamics, who often have
competing issues. This ensures Health and Human Service Workers provide quality services and efficacy in
the continuum of care while being cognitively aware of potential legal implications.
The scenario presented in this performance assessment will provide an insightful experience in learning to
assess the client's needs and identify gaps while building strategies that bridge with resources in the
community. This includes coordinating services with providers or agencies to assist the client in meeting the
desired goals.
Note: All references used should be current, within the last five years.
SCENARIO
You are a healthcare service coordinator for a local health department. You have been tasked with
coordinating services for a 29-year-old single Indian mother and her three children, ages 1, 3, and 4.
After completing the client intake, you have discovered the following information:
Angela is a single mother who has come into the clinic today due to having high blood pressure and needs to
see about getting her medication refilled. Angela struggles to pay the $30 a month for her prescribed blood
pressure medication; she currently takes them every other day so they will last longer. Angela and her
children do not have medical insurance and Angela stated that she probably cannot afford it.
In today’s visit, it has been identified that Angela’s one-year-old is still not walking and her three-year-old has
a speech delay. Angela is concerned about their development and if it will have an impact on them long term.
