7092.6.1 : Examines Dimensions of Wellness
The learner examines the dimensions of wellness in individuals and families for improved health outcomes.
INTRODUCTION
The communication platforms within healthcare offer diverse channels in which you will communicate with
inter- and intradepartmental teams, individual patients, families, and populations with multifaceted needs.
This diversity extends to many healthcare settings, such as inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, or skilled care
settings. Effective communication facilitates the continuum of care and manages client transitions.
This performance assessment will allow you to identify and expand your knowledge of the eight dimensions
of wellness, explore the individual and family network of needs and impacts, and analyze diverse and
disparate populations. Your experience will provide insight into the various imbalances that hinder improving
health outcomes. Learning valuable communication skills in conjunction with professional and appropriate
behaviors will ensure that the integrity and dignity of the individual and family are supported.
For Part I of this task, you will examine the eight dimensions of wellness. For Part II, you will use the scenario
to analyze how imbalances in a hypothetical client’s physical and social environment can be addressed to
improve health outcomes.
Note: All references used should be current, within the last five years.
SCENARIO
The client is a 58-year-old, single, African American female who lives in a two-bedroom apartment in a
suburban neighborhood. She is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), hypertension, glaucoma, and
depression. The client has a history of vision problems and recently had a third surgery on her eyes due to
retina concerns. She uses a rollator to assist with mobility due to a lack of coordination and an unsteady gait.
