Introduction:
When it comes to presentations, it is important to know the audience that you are
speaking to as well as the specific needs of each audience. In this scenario my team is
implementing a new IT process that I will need to explain to three different and distinct
audiences. The first presentation will be at an overseas internal conference to a group of
professionals that have widely varying levels of technical ability and knowledge. The second
presentation will be to a group of students taking an online college course. The third and final
presentation will be to members of my department, many of whom are resisting the idea of a
process change.
When presenting to these three different groups, it is important to understand things like
the audience’s familiarity with the topic, attitude, cultural background, language, and
demographics in order to modify the presentation to properly fit the audience’s needs.
Audience 1: Familiarity with the topic:
The first presentation is an overseas internal conference. The audience consists of many
different employees, each with different levels of knowledge and ability. Because of the wide gap
in the familiarity of the topic to the audience, the presentation will be limited to a non-expert
technical level. The audience is interested in the presentation, but some of the participants with
limited knowledge may need additional assistance with implementation in the future. To help
keep the audience interested, the presentation should consist of more practical examples and less
