1) Requirements of DNA replication:
1.1) Replication must be extremely accurate
1.2) Replication must take place at a high speed
2) Proposed DNA replication methods:
2.1) Conservative replication:
o After 1 round of replication DNA is a mix 50% new DNA molecules and
50% old DNA molecules
o After 2 rounds of replication DNA is a mix of 75% new DNA molecules and
25% old DNA molecules
2.2) Semiconservative replication:
o Each DNA strand unwinds and serves as a template strand for a new DNA
molecule
, 2.3) Dispersive replication:
o Both nucleotides break down into fragments which serves as templates
for new DNA fragments
o These fragments reassemble into complete nucleotides
2.4) Meselson and Stahl’s experiment:
Goal: To determine which model of replication was correct
