D186 Task 3
A. Lesson Analysis:
Subject: Math
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Objective: I can identify and name basic shapes (circle, square, triangle,
rectangle).
Standard: K.G.A.2 Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or
overall size.
In our kindergarten classroom, students are learning about 2-dimensional
shapes. The lesson will begin with a numeracy talk and a lesson launch.
Students will be shown a picture that is composed of basic shapes. Students
will be asked, “what do you notice?” Students will contribute to classroom
conversation and be sent off to their stations for math workshop.
Station 1 (Math with a Teacher): Mini-lesson with Mrs. Fry
Station 2 (Math with Someone): Deck o Dots Duel Game
Station 3 (Math by Myself): Shape Sort
Station 4 (Math with Technology): SplashLearn (shape assignments).
Drawing/Summarizing Techniques: During the mini-lesson, students will
play shape memory with a partner as a warm-up activity. Students will be
given a blank sheet of paper and will listen to a song (Mat Man Song). As the
song plays, I will stop at each part and ask students what shape that part of
their “person” should be. We will together complete the mat man drawing
using what we know about basic 2-dimensional shapes. Students will engage
