I've seen my work graded towards a distinction, and I hope that this will help you with your assignment, too, if anyone feels like they're failing.

Unit 9 Computer Networks “D1”
As you can see from the example this is the configuration of the equipment in the computer room. At
first sight, the topology seems to be a Mesh topology, but any link to the network connects directly to
the switch, so it is really a Star topology.

The switch uses a bus topology to connect to the server, and the combination of the bus and the star
topology makes this the Tree topology. The purpose we should choose this topology is that if more
workstations or facilities were required, they could be added quickly and efficiently. The selection of
equipment and the reasons for its choice are as follows:

Lab Computers: Lab computers are designed for students to be able to run new applications that
students use to do course
work. Computers will
need to be sufficient to
run Microsoft Office,
Adobe Creative Suite,
etc... and would also need
network cards (NICs) to be
able to connect to the network. Wireless features were not required for classes, when this space is for
training purposes, and wireless on the phones can be disruptive.

Switch: Full control of the network in the
workroom can be accomplished by
optimizing the traffic control switch
without having to access the server
manually.

If you need something outside the network,
along with internet or web services, the
requests will first go through the switch
and then switch to the server where they
are tested for reliability.

Server: The server for this room will be the building server itself, which manages the different network
nodes for the building, the switch attached to the server has some rights to monitor the flow of traffic.
The registry contains personal details as well as user identities for example: Student Name, Student ID
number, School/College email address. Many students will use the computer room to hold user details
on the server plus any data that might be relevant (assignment files or portfolios of work).

Administration accounts and permissions (for editing workstation information) will also be stored on the
server.
