Contact and Non-Contact Forces
Vector Quantities- have a magnitude and direction.
Velocity, displacement, acceleration, momentum
Scalar Quantities- only have magnitude and no direction
Speed, distance, mass, temperature, time, etc.
CONTACT FORCE- When two objects have to be touching for a force to act.
NON-CONTACT FORCE- When two objects don’t have to be touching for a force to act.
When two objects interact the force between them are both equal and opposite.
Weight, Mass & GravitEEEeee
Mass- The quantity of matter in a body regardless of its volume or of any forces acting on it. (KG)
Weight- the force exerted on a body by gravity. Measured in NEWTONS using a newton meter.
Gravity: the force of attraction between masses, it gives everything weight. The gravitational field
strength varies with location.
Mass and Weight Triangle:
Resultant Forces and Work Done
Resultant Force: Overall force on a Point/ Object (the strongest force acting on it)
Example:
WORK DONE MEANS THAT ENERGY IS TRANSFERRED
When a force moves an object through a distance WORK IS
DONE
Example:
