M3 d2 unit 39 Health and Social Care

M3 D2 – Review a risk assessment in relation to infection
prevention and control undertaken at a health or social
care work placement and assess how risk assessment can
contribute to reducing rates of infection in a health or
social care setting:
Strengths:
One of the strengths of the risk assessment which I have reviewed is that it is
straight to the point and it doesn’t contain irrelevant information. It covers the
main key concepts of what the teacher will do if the child gets sick in school.

Strength of the risk assessment is that it gives the parents advice about what
they could do in order to help their child get better. This could be helpful for
the younger parents, for those who don’t have much experience and might not
be exactly sure on how to treat children when they are sick. This risk
assessment gives them some guidance in what they could do.

Strength of this risk assessment is that the teachers must follow the rules of
the child washing their hand after they have used the bathroom or before they
have lunch. It is part of the teacher’s job to ensure that the children are
hygienic in order to prevent any infections or them getting ill.

Additional strength of this risk assessment is that the parents get the idea of
what rules the teachers and teacher assistants have to follow in order to
discipline them and also make sure that they are very hygienic. This is positive
and seen as an advantage as the parents are more likely to trust the teachers
and the school in leaving their child there to learn. This would also ensure the
children parents are aware that they are safe in the school and they are going
to get help if something happens to the child e.g. they vomit and the teacher
will make sure that the child gets medical help with the permission of the
child.

The strength of this risk assessment is that it states the symptoms and the
linked diseases and infections are with them. This could give the school nurse
and the teachers an idea of how they could help the child in order to make
them feel better. This is very important because it could build trust with the
parents since the school knows what they are doing and how they could help
the children in school in different situations.

Weaknesses:
One of the weaknesses could be that since the floors and carpets are cleaner
regularly, there are harsh chemicals used in order to clean the microbes from
