Recruiting staff is very important for the success of a business. Often people are the most
expensive assets in a business and employing the wrong people can be costly if customers are
unhappy or receive poor service. Recruiting staff in a professional way is also critical to
businesses and helps their success. This is because professional recruitment means that the
reputation of the business continues to be good so more people will be attracted to work
there. Each stage of the recruitment has a purpose and enables Thorpe Park to get the best
employees for the job.
Internal advertising
This means that the advertising of the job will only be done inside the organisation and the
person will already have an idea of the type of organisation that they are working for and the
skills needed to work there.
Some of the advantages of advertising internally are that the selection process is much easier
and quicker as there is likely to be a smaller pool of high calibre candidates to choose from.
Also, it’s more cost efficient as the business does not have to pay recruiters’ fees or to
advertise the job. By recruiting internally, you already know the capabilities of the candidate
and have a better idea of how they will perform in this new role.
Some of the disadvantages of advertising internally are that there are no new ideas or energy
coming into the business. It also limits the potential number of candidates that you have to
choose from. It may create resentment between employees who feel that they were
overlooked for the promotion, and a new vacancy will be created when your candidate takes
the new role.
External advertising
It is the process of recruiting from outside the organisation. There are a number of ways this
can be done and these include the organisation itself doing the recruiting or making use of job
centres and agencies.
Some of the advantages of external advertising are that it brings in new talent and new ideas
to the business. There is no limit to the number of candidates you can screen/interview, and
the company will be exposed to a more diverse set of skills and experiences.
Some of the disadvantages of advertising externally are that typically it’s a more expensive
process with costs for advertising the job and arranging interviews, and it usually takes a
longer process than internal advertising. It is also more difficult for the company to assess the
candidate as you have no proven experience to work only.
