, Task 1: (P1)
Web Architecture:

An ISP (Internet Service Provider) is a company that provides internet services to the public, or
anyone that needs it, hence their name. It is almost always provided for a price. Their role is to grant
the customer with a username and password so they can access the internet. The customer will then
be able to connect to the internet via the use of a modem that will most likely be sent to them from
their ISP.

A web hosting service is a company that allows the customer to host their web sites online, however,
they can also be used to host images, files and other content. There are a few different types of web
hosting services available. Firstly, shared web hosting is where many different sites are all shared on
the same server. Secondly, dedicated server are where one server is the host of one site. Finally,
virtual private service hosting is where the site is on its own server so no one else can access your
operating system or your files.

A Domain structure is a group of computers that are all maintained locally. They all have logins on
the same domain so they can access all the files on the same network. If you don’t have a login for
that domain, you won’t be able to access al the files on that domain. A domain registrar is a company
that will provide domain names to other companies or customers if they want a certain web address
for their site. For example, abc.com, 123.net, etc.

The World Wide Web is the network of all HTML sites on the internet. They are accessed using the
HTTP (Hypertext transfer protocol) is the protocol that transfers all the HTML sites to your computer.

Web Components:

A web server uses HTTP to access the web pages and show them to the user. A mail server is what
receives local e-mails and also sends out the outgoing e-mails. A proxy server is a server that stops all
requests from reaching the real server to see if it can perform the action needed itself. If not, then it
will send it to the real server.

A router is the device that forwards all the data packets across networks. The router is located at the
gateway of the point where to networks meet, usually between the Local Area Network and the ISP.

A web browser is used to find and retrieve content from the WWW and display it to the user. The
browser will contact the web server and request for the content it needs. The web server will then
respond and the content will be displayed by the browser.

Email software is software that can be used to create, send, retrieve and organise emails for the user.
It works by sending outgoing mail using the SMPT (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) and then
contacting a DNS server so it can figure out its destination. Then it will send out the email using
SMPT. The receiver can then access the email by POP (Post Office Protocol) or IMAP (Internet
Message Access Protocol).
