Assignment 2
Select a Computer system for a given business purpose

Joel
03/02/2017

, Task 1: Recommend a computer system for a given business purpose: (P4)
and Justify choice of computer system to meet a given business purpose
(M2)

For John to carry out his role effectively I will recommend a Desktop Macintosh computer that will
have all the necessary components to fit his job needs. I will recommend the “Apple Mac mini - Core
i5 2.6 GHz - 8 GB RAM - 1 TB HDD - Intel Iris Graphics - Apple OS X 10.12 Sierra for £679” There are
many reasons why I have chosen this computer which I will explain.

Firstly, the CPU is an Intel Core i5 (4th Gen) 2.6 GHz. This means that it is powerful enough for
graphics designing while still being moderately priced. Other processors like i7’s may be better but
the i5 is good enough. The CPU is a dual core with 4 threads. This means that it is good for
multitasking while graphic designing. The threads mean the amount of instructions that can occur
through each processor at a time. The 2.6 GHz is the maximum frequency that the processors can
work at. Over 1 GHz is a good speed for graphic designing and this CPU’s base frequency is 1.6 GHz
which is good enough and good for the price.

The 8GB of RAM is the best choice because it is enough for graphics design for the best price. No less
than 8GB of RAM would be enough because the system wouldn’t be able to handle the amount of
tasks that need to be completed. The more RAM, the more tasks that can be processed at the same
time. Also the CPU is good enough to handle the amount of RAM so the PC doesn’t slow down due
to slow processing speeds or lack of memory. The 8GB of RAM is more cost effective than the 16GB
of RAM because at that point the RAM isn’t really necessary for what it is being used for. The 1TB
Hard drive will ensure that John never runs out of memory since he doesn’t want to ever have
memory problems. The 1TB will also allow John to always save everything he uses and the original
sources so he won’t lose work. This amount of memory combined with the good amount of RAM will
ensure John won’t be held up while working. The Intel Iris graphics are
good integrated graphics that are good for graphics design so no extra
money even needs to be spent on a graphics card. Adobe apps rarely
need the use of a graphics card so these integrated graphics are perfect
for John. A 3-year warranty can also be bought for an extra £25 which I
would recommend just in case anything goes wrong. This would
definitely be worth it so no problems occur for John and he is lef
without a computer for a long period of time if it breaks.

The computer will be able to easily connect to the internet wirelessly wherever he is. Also this
computer doesn’t take up that much space so it is easy to move around if he ever needs to. John can
download an App on his phone to be able to transfer his images to and from his pc to his phone like
he wants to. There are also many ports on the pc that allow for a number of peripherals to be
connected. The Mac will have Mac OS X which is recommended for graphics designers because of
how they it is designed for graphics and it’s easy to use interface.
