Task 1
Set up a standalone computer system, installing hardware and software component.
(P5)

The context.
Making sure you follow Health and Safety rules to set up a standalone computer checking
you have connected the different parts correctly. Install an operating system and install
open office. Make suggestions about what other hardware components could be installed.
Install a wireless card or similar showing a before and after installation. Show that the
installed devices have the correct drivers and the ones that aren’t working. Show using
screen shots how you got the non-working hardware devices working – prove that they
worked.
Setting up a standalone computer system.




Before setting up the standalone computer system I took various health and safety
precautions, for example one of the precautions I took is that there is no power being
supplied so that I do not get any electrical shocks or accidentally connect myself to the
power supply or mains.
After making sure there is no power being supplied I connected all the necessary
equipment’s and peripherals.

These images shows that both the monitor and desktop have nothing connected to it.

These images shows that I have connected the VGA cable to the monitor, this is shown on
the left image where a blue VGA connector is connected to a VGA port on the monitor. The
centre image shows that the VGA cable is connected to the desktop via a VGA-to-DVI
adapter as there was no VGA port. The image on the right shows that I have connected to
USB cables to two USB ports that have connected the wired mouse and keyboard. The
following images show the adapter I have used.




These two images shows that I have finally attached both PSU plugs into the monitor and
desktop.
