DATA Protection Act.
In 1998 the data protection act was established. The data protection act is control over how and
when personal information is allowed to be used. Personal data would either be stored on some
form of storage device or written down on paper. It is now illegal to give out anyone’s personal
information without first getting the approval of the individual, the only time this can be broken is
to protect the safety of the individual/someone else or with a legal warrant, if the data protection
act is broken then they would be prosecuted. All organisation will have to keep personal data
confidential until they get the permission of the owner of the data which after would they would
be able to pass on to a third party.
How it could affect the company.
With the data protection act it makes it difficult for an organisation to be able to use secondary
information/data from the internet as they will need to get permission to use it, failure to get
permission to use the information could end up with serious consequences however not all
information on the internet will need permissions to be used. When collecting information from
questionnaires the marketing team need to be careful not to spread any personal data as it would
be a breach of the data protection act.

information that is stored in public services. This Act also allows organizations to take their
information from a company if they choose to. All public authorities must share the information
within 20 day of the request, if they do not share the information without an acceptable reason
then they could be subject to prosecution.
Computer Misuse Act.
All organizations must make sure to protect their employee’s data and information. In 1990 the
computer misuse Act was introduced to make sure that computer will be protected against cyber-
attacks such as, hacking, unauthorised access to computer systems and viruses being spread
across computers. This Act is helps full to all companies as it makes them have protect their
customers data, if the data got hacked and customer information got out then the company would
be left liable as they didn’t have good enough security.
How it could affect the company.
This act could affect the company if the computer security team attempted to get into another
companies computer systems to win competition. For example if two companies where working
together and the one of the employees found out the login details of an employee from the other
company and used that information to gain access to their computer systems to chance/copy their
work then this would be a breach of the computer misuse Act and would be prosecuted.
Copyright Infringement Act.
In 1988 the copyright infringement Act was introduced. This for all creator to protect their work
from being stolen and used by others. This act will allow the creator of any work to prosecute
whomever uses their work without their permission. In organisations if they want to use
someone’s else’s work to make their work better, then they would have to get permission which
will normally cost some money, if they did not get permission then they may get fined.
