UK Travel and
Tourism Industry
, Transport: Road
• The UK has a large network of roads that allows vehicles to travel easily
around the country.
• On roads, cars, coaches, taxis and buses are used frequently in everyday life.
• To drive a car, it has to have a valid MOT as well as car insurance.
• Many companies allow the public to travel freely over the country. Some
examples of companies in the UK are Stagecoach, Uber and Yorkshire Rose
Coaches.
• The wide variety of roads all over the UK allows us to travel everywhere freely
and comfortably.
• However, as more and more people are using modes of transport, such as cars
and buses, traffic congestion on roads is increasing rapidly, perhaps increasing
the amount of people who are late as well as the amount of breakdowns or
even accidents.
• The DFT (Department For Transport) is a ministerial department that supports
the transport network. They do this by helping the UK’s businesses whilst
getting people and goods around the country smoothly.
