Unit 8 - Assignment 2 – D1

D1 - Evaluate the use of e-commerce in a ‘brick and click’ organisation

Brick and Click is a type of business model that is now widely used by most companies all around the
world.

Brick and Click meaning: Brick= offline or locally available, Click= available online at any time.

This business model is used to describe that a company has local stores and an online store where
customers can purchase different things. This is good for both the customers and for the business as
they can continuously earn money by having an online store, and it’s also good as the customers can
check their wanted products in an actual store before purchasing it.

Companies are now also making mobile applications as most people seem to carry a smartphone
with themselves. These mobile applications will provide the customers the same and or better
experiences than going in to a local shop, and or using the company’s website.

Delivery can also be easier, as people can purchase something over the internet and have their items
delivered to their front-door, and or have the option to pick-it-up at their nearest local store.

Let’s talk about why it’s good, or not so good to have such a business model implemented into a
business.

Advantages of ecommerce:

-24/7 Trading: By having an online store (E-Commerce website) the company will earn money all the
time, continuously. This couldn’t be done by having only an actual local store, as there are closing
times and laws that must be kept.

-World Wide: The Company could sell products to customers who live on the other side of the
planet by shipping their wanted products to them, directly from their own warehouses. So this
means that an e-commerce website can basically reach everyone, everywhere.

-Disabled: Disabled people who can’t visit local stores would have an easier option by ordering their
products over the internet. This would keep the customers and the company happy, as customers
would not have difficulties in a local shop, and the company would not have any issues with them,
and would also earn money.

-Cost: An online web shop costs less than opening a local shop that could be either rented or bought.
Plus, companies only have to set-up an e-commerce website once, and then maintain it. So the
money needed for an e-commerce website is way less than an actual shop, so it could be saved for
many other important things such as security.

-Easy to use: A lot of helpful information can be added to a website, helping customers get the best
available online help, directly from the company. This will make navigation on the website very easy,
and so customers will find what they are actually looking for.

-Security: Customers are asked to put in their private and confidential information such as address,
emails, phone numbers and credit details. All of this information is encrypted which means that it
