halogenoalkanes
Formation of halogenoalkanes
1. Initiation - start with halogen and end with free radical
2. Propagation - start and end with a radical
Occurs in two stages:
The chlorine-free radical takes a hydrogen atom from methane to form
hydrogen chloride, a stable compound, leaving a methyl free radical.
The methyl free radical is also very reactive and reacts with a chlorine
molecule, generating another chlorine free radical.
3. Termination - start with two radicals and end with none
