Unit 29: Security Procedures

In this report I am going to be identifying the main threats of the security of people, property,
and premises in the police force. I am also going to evaluate the Manchester Arena Bombing
and how it impacted the security of people.

Terrorists:
Overall, there are 6 types of terrorists. First, we have religion. These types are more likely to
be motivated by religious ideologies and grievances, they can be extremely dangerous due
to the fanaticism of those who practice it. As well as their willingness to sacrifice themselves.
This all was made possible due to religious teaching which was used to justify and
encourage this self-sacrifice. These terrorists are more likely to use a tactic called ‘all in’
where they use suicide bombs. An example of religious terrorists is Catholic Protestant
violence which is in Ireland. Next, we have the Left Wing, this type of group that seeks to
overthrow capitalist democracies and establish socialist or communist governments in their
place. This kind of group does hardly exist as they did in the Cold war. Their main aim is to
attack the beastliest system to do with class distinction. A few examples of this are the
revolutionary people’s liberation Party-Front which is in Turkey and the revolutionary Armed
Forces of Columbia. The right wing aims to combat liberal governments and preserve
traditional social order; they are commonly characterized by militias and gangs. The right-
wing groups are usually motivated and marginalize minorities within a state. These types of
groups are in the United States, Germany, Russia, and other countries. Issue oriented are
the type of terrorist for advancing a specific issue. These issues are social in nature or
dealing with the environment. An example of this would be the bombing which happened in
abortion clinics and the assault on the whaling ships. Separatist terrorist cause
fragmentation within a country, this type of terrorism is usually within a nation state that want
their own state commonly due to discrimination from majority of the group. The best example
is the ETA Basque separatists in Spain. Narcos terrorists refer to organisations that gain
funds through the sale of drugs, it can also use violence to make the sale of their drugs
easier. An example of this is the cartel in Mexico which have carried out mass burials,
beheading, and other service acts of violence.

One of the consequences for terrorist attacks are the loss of lives and how many people get
injured during it. Terrorists can not only affect them mentally but also physically. These may
include broken bones, soft tissue injuries, disability, chronic pain, sensory disturbance, and
the people who got killed. In 2019 there were over 8,302 terrorist attacks which took place
throughout the entire year. Terrorists create a sense of fear and insecurity in people and can
often affect their daily lifestyles.

The police help prevent terrorism by working with many other groups of people and put in
the right support to stop people from being dragged into terrorism. These groups usually
include local authorities, schools and colleges, faith leaders, community groups, voluntary
services, and health practices. They also published two steps of what you should do if you
are ever in a terrorist attack, this consists of running to a place of safety or hiding if you
cannot run and ring the police.
