What is Anthropology?
Forensic Anthropology is the examination of human skeletal
remains for law enforcement agencies to help with the recovery of
human remains, determine the identity of unidentified human
remains, interpret trauma, and estimate the time since death
(Forensic Anthropology Center, 2021).
Anthropology has two main divisions: physical and cultural.
Physical anthropologists study the physical features of humans
(Bkids, 2021). Cultural anthropologists examine human cultures.
Both physical and cultural anthropology may include the study of
prehistoric, ancient, and modern humans (Bkids, 2021).

Primarily supports the identification of an unknown individual,
through:
 Skeletal and anatomical analysis
 Creating an osteobiography, i.e., biological, and pathological
profile
 Creating a facial reproduction
 Analyse evidence of past injury and medical treatment
Can also help to provide expert opinion on the weapon used and
the number of blows which were sustained by the victim.

Forensic anthropology is also used to determine the elapsed time
since death.

Forensic anthropologists are experts in the examination of skeletal
tissue, but with a basic understanding of excavation field skills.


Physical Anthropology:
Physical anthropologists examine differences in human physical
features, usually the human genes (Bkids, 2021). They may also
measure the shape, size and structure of body parts and
properties such as blood types.
Some physical anthropologists compare the physical features
among people from different geographic areas. Whereas others
may examine what makes humans physically different from other
animals, such as apes (Bkids, 2021). Some physical
