The Ultimate guide in getting an A* in A Level history: Russia
General tips for Russia:

• Russia is part of the depth study of the course which means you study a smaller time
frame but with greater detail. An understanding of key stats, dates and events is
integral in achieving high marks so make sure you understand the content.
• Just like in your breadth paper, your ability to analyse and successfully and
convincingly argue a point is very important. Make sure to examine both sides of the
argument and make a substantiated and well backed up argument.
• Extra reading is very helpful here, the more historiography you read, the more
historians you will be able to quote, which is extremely impressive to examiners.
Make sure to show off and incorporate (make sure it links to the question) any
historians and their views in your arguments.
• Flash cards come in very handy here because it is a shorter time frame and therefore
key facts and stats are needed. Make flash cards about key dates and events.

Best websites to get an A*

1. Russian Revolution essay questions (alphahistory.com)

Alpha history, the Russian Revolution Past papers, is an excellent way to practice doing
some past papers and getting the hand of answering a range of question styles which
will enhance your writing abilities and memory of key facts.

2. JSTOR

This is a very good website I would recommend you to use for extra reading. This allows
you to have a wide range of knowledge on both historical arguments and historians,
which you can then use in your essays to further justify your argument:

, 3. Again, I cannot recommend this website enough: Academia.edu

This is excellent to use for wider reading and allows you to read through an
immense collection of historiographies and general writing about the Revolution

4. The AQA Past papers are crucial for finding real past paper questions that are
vital in you getting an A*

Past paper questions that were REAL:
