M2: Assess the hazards identified in the health or social care setting & D1: Make recommendations
in relation to identified hazards to minimise the risks to the service user group.
Within my work placement and other health and social care settings, there are a number of hazards
that could arise from not following the relevant policies and procedures. This could have serious
repercussions for service users and staff. This is very serious as some hazards could be life
threatening, so the proper measurements must be taken seriously to prevent or reduce these
hazards. The types of hazards that may become present are firstly health hazards; these are
incidents that could result in illness. Secondly safety hazards these are incidents that could
consequently lead to personal injury or damage to buildings or appliances. Thirdly, security hazards,
these come under intruders trespassing on property, abduction of individuals, theft of information
or property and lastly leaving without consent.
At day care setting, health hazard could arise is poor air ventilation. This could increase the chances
of airborne infections being spread. This is an important factor to take into consideration when
minimising hazardous risks, as colds and flu could most possibly be spread in this atmosphere.
Therefore, this could result in the service users becoming ill or their medical conditions made worse
and could even make the carers ill. If the majority of the carers became ill, the centre would not be
able to carry out its purpose to look after the service users.
In addition to air, the temperature can be a health hazard towards the service user’s health. If the
air temperature gets either too hot or too cold, this could increase or decrease the service users
body temperature to an unhealthy rate. So much like the air ventilation, it is a serious hazard to be
in relation to identified hazards to minimise the risks to the service user group.
