In this task i will be explaining possible priorities and responses when incidents or
emergencies occur in an health setting, i will also discuss the health and safety and security
concerns arising from incidents or emergencies in a health care setting,i will also justify
responses that should be given when an incident occur in an health and social setting.
P4:
Despite all precautions taken to prevent accidents, they can still happen. One of the
accidents that can occur in a healthcare setting is slips and falls. This can happen when
there's slippery floors or poor lighting. In the case of this accident happening, it is the priority
of the carer to check if the patient is okay. For example, when a patient falls from the stairs,
the first thing to do is to check the patient's breathing and pulse, then for injuries like broken
bones or bruises then call emergency services or tell the nurses to attend to the individual
they are health professionals so they will know the next step to take that will be beneficial to
the individual.
It is very important to make sure no other accident can occur by removing any other material
like chemicals away from where the accident occurred. It is also important that healthcare
professionals assess how bad the injury is. If serious, casualties must be treated quickly to
prevent it from getting worse by applying first aid. In the case of bruises and bleeding,
anyone administering first aid must be wearing vinyl gloves to prevent infections through
blood contact. The patient (accident victim) should be moved from the accident spot if the
injury is not serious. In case of a broken neck, the patient should be treated first before
moving as moving the patient with a broken neck immediately can further hurt the patient. It
is important to record and report all accidents. Investigation of fall circumstances should be
carried out also.

spillages. In a health care environment infection are at high risk of spreading that's why it is
important to maintain proper hygiene. Infectious diseases like MRSA can enter the body
through breathing, ingestion and through inoculation. It is therefore important to keep
yourself from contacting any of this. Pregnant women, elderlies, babies, People with
diabetes and people with reduced immunity can contract and lead to the spread of
infections. Washing of hands is a way of reducing the spread of infections if the blood spilt
after the accident. The use of antibacterial gel, tissues and water to remove minor injuries to
the body is also important to reduce the risks of infections.
It is necessary to remove any object on the way if someone falls. If the patient can't walk and
a wheelchair is needed, it is important to provide a clear path for the patient. It is important to
stabilise the patient by making them calm and the carer should deal with the situation
patiently. This is important because the patient can become scared and the carer not having
