THE BIOGRAPHER ANNOTATIONS:
‘Because you are dead’:
Grammar:
• Syntax begins with a subordinating connective, this uncommon
positioning of grammar gives the effect of media res
• Implies that the narrator is already committed to the act of violating
the author’s legacy
• This action is instinctual, suggested by the subordinate nature of the
connective
• They are driven by a want whose justification seems inherent, and so
they commit these disturbing acts without moralisation
• Although, the connective’s positioning at the front of the syntax gives
it grammatical priority and emphasises the connective’s traditional
use as a word to justify acts
• This could be viewed as the narrator’s emphasis on clearing their
actions, the eagerness of which reflects their inability to reflect on
wrongdoing
• The failure to self reflect is what allows the narrator to remain
uninhibited in their pursuit of the author
• Positioning of the descriptive adjective at the end of the syntax
foregrounds the inanimate nature of the subject, suggesting that this
passivity is of the utmost importance to the narrator; it allows him to
project all manner of things onto the submissive author. This being a
necessary condition for the narrator to initiate the relationship further
exaggerates his predatory persona
