Language and Ethic Groups

In Bangladesh the language that they speak is Bengali and in Chile the language that they speak in is
Spanish. In Bangladesh, the natives group in the country is Bengali which is termed as major ethnic,
with the minor ethnic group there are Chakma, Marma and Mundas. In Chile, the natives group in

Social Structure and Religion

In Bangladesh, the rural society is left with a vast mass of proletariat including, artisans, and working
classes. The different social groups developed in the rural areas are capitalist farmers, rich peasants,
middle peasants, marginal peasants and the landless. The religion that is mainly followed in
Bangladesh is Islam but a significant percentage of the population adheres to Hinduism. In Chile,
Chile has gone through great political upheaval and social mobilization. In the last 30 years, Chile has
made great strides in improving its people’s welfare. In fact it is one of the countries in Latin America
that has been classified as high-medium income and its poverty rate is well below the average for
the region, where it stands at the top of the Human Development Index. The majority of Chileans are
Roman Catholics and around 15% of the population in Chile are Cristian Protestant and therefore
making it one of the nations in Latin America with the greatest protestant influence.

Values and Attitudes to Business

Bangladesh is a hierarchical society as well as people are respected because of their age and their
position and older people are general viewed as wise and are therefore granted that respect.
Bangladesh is one of the most emerging markets in the world and it unlocks numerous business
opportunities to foreign investors. Offices in Bangladesh are male dominated however they will
always treat their female business partners with respect. The title matters the most in Bangladesh,
so make sure to match the positions of the people attending the meeting. If you are a director or a
higher level manager, they will take you seriously.

Most Chileans are Roman Catholics and the religion has played a huge role in defining social and
political life. The Chilean culture has been a mix of Spanish colonial elements with elements of
indigenous culture, as well as other immigrant cultures. The business atmosphere in Chile is more
formal than the rest of South America and punctuality is generally respected and expected in
business and Chileans do not like to feel pressured or rushed.
