, Unit 21 Assignment 2
In this report I will develop an appropriate induction programme for a
group of new crew members starting at a McDonalds restaurant. I will
then assess the factors likely to make the induction successful for new
starters in McDonalds. A good induction programme is very important as
this will leave a lasting impression on the new employee and sets the
tone for the entire business, it can also determine whether they stay or
leave the business.
The current induction programme at McDonalds has areas that need
improvement which I will evaluate the likely impact of the induction
programme on the business and the individuals.
What is induction?
An induction is the process for welcoming newly recruited employees
into a business and supporting them to be able to adjust to their new
roles and new working environment. Inductions help new employees be
integrated into a business and gives them the chance to show them the
systems, procedures and the different cultures and values within the
business. A good induction programme educated and informs the new
employees about the practices, culture and performance of McDonalds
along with their health and safety procedures with handling equipment.
Induction currently at McDonalds
The current induction programme at McDonalds is set into 4 steps:
1. Welcome Meeting
2. Online Training
3. On-the-Job training
4. 3month review
The McDonalds welcome meeting is a chance for new crew to come
together and meet the Business Manager of the restaurant and their HR
Manager. During the welcome meeting, the new crew give in their
passports and all their payroll information to the Business Manager and
write down their uniform requirements.
During the welcome meeting, the new Crew are given their log in details
and are shown how to complete their online training independently at
home. If the new Crew member does not complete the online training,
they will not be able to work until they have completed the training.
