I. Overview: What is an Informal Letter?
Informal or personal letters are written to people with whom you share a close bond. This
guide covers the structural requirements for:
Relatives: Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Uncle, Aunt.
Rule 1: The Header & Greeting (The Setup)
Before the message begins, you must establish the "Where" and "When."
*Self-Address: Your location details (Top-right or top-left depending on curriculum).
*Date: The full calendar date (e.g., 21st December 2025).
*Salutation: The opening greeting.
Standard: Dear [Name/Relation],

(i) Opening Sentences: Asking about health, hoping they are well, thanking them for a
previous letter, or offering congratulations.
(ii) Bridge/Connections: Transitioning from the greeting into the main purpose of the letter.
(iii) The Topic: Directly addressing the main reason for writing or answering questions asked
of you.
(iv) Descriptions: Detailed information covering good sides/causes or bad sides/effects of the
subject matter.
(v) Your Opinion: Offering advice (using "should"), personal remarks, or specific comments.
(vi) Conclusion: Well-wishing for the recipient and their family; a warm sign-off ending.

Name: Your signature or printed name.
The Envelope (Address & Addressee): Draw a clear box representing the envelope.
