P5 M4 D2 D3

Unit 12

P5 M4 D2 D3
The challenges that Rebecca will face in her daily life would be getting up the stairs in her family
home to go to the toilet or her bedroom, this is a challenge she would have to face every day and may
avoid going up to her bedroom because of the hassle it brings to herself and perhaps to others. To
overcome this challenge, her family could use a stair lift so she can easily go up independently.
Another challenge would be cooking for the future or when she is home alone, she may find it
difficult to do simple food like breakfast in the morning as to the counter tops being too high up so
she cannot access anything as she is in wheelchair. To overcome this then her family could make
some adaptations to the kitchen and make the counter tops accessible for both Rebecca and the others
in the households. Rebecca could also face a challenge when accessing buildings such as schools,
shopping centres or supermarkets due to their small isles and doors and that may things could be
upstairs, and they don’t offer lifts. To overcome this then the community should give access to
wheelchair users and adapt their doors and place lifts where need be.
A statutory provision is a phrase used to refer to parts of the law. Professionals working with Rebecca
would use a system called Common Assessment Framework (CAF) which is used to gather
information of a child’s needs to assess if they need any support services. Using Rebecca’s case, they
can assess her physical needs and so give her advice to help her life with her disability and how she
can maintain doing daily tasks. This would impact Rebecca by improving her confidence knowing she
can still do her daily tasks like taking a shower or cooking. By being given advice, professionals can
also help her when she goes outside. A care provision such as a hospital can put in place ramps and
lifts to help her get upstairs, so she does not have to miss out any important appointments. To help her
intellectual needs she can be assessed for classes and they can then see if extra support would involve
her and help her learn better if she is struggling due to stresses. The school can put in place mentors
and extra help to support her intellectual skills and reduce her stresses. They can assess her emotional
needs to see how stressed she is over her physical disability and advise for her to try counselling. This
will help her express her emotions so she doesn’t feel overwhelmed with them bust professionals can
also assess if she prefers one to one or group therapy and which she feels comfortable in. the school
can put in place a therapy session with the school counsellor to help maintain her stresses and
overwhelming. They can assess her social needs by assessing who she hangs around with and if it
affects her emotional if they are leaving her out, professionals can advise her to start hanging around
with others or to include her in more groups so she can compare who is nice to her and who is not.
This could be in a school setting as that’s where Rebecca will be most socialising.
A second statutory provision that would help professionals when working for Rebecca is known as a
special educational needs and local offer which ensures children with additional needs, such as
Rebecca, to receive the support they need. Their mission statement is to help children to; achieve the
grades they desire, enjoy school and to have a stable self-concept, experience a great curriculum,
socialise, and make friends and to develop self-confidence and gain independence. The services that
they provide are SEND, council for disabled children (CDC), Disability Acts online and many more.
This can benefit Rebecca because she may not know how to access support and can go onto the
internet and access the support, she desires on Disability Acts online. This way if she ever feels
unconfident about her physical disability then she can access support independently. The special
educational needs and local offer can be promoted in care provisions such as hospitals or GP settings
as they can place posters or leaflets around so people can pick up and be more knowledgeable about
the support you can access.
