VOCAB

Range- Find by this equation: maximum value - minimum value

Mode- Whichever data entry is occurring most frequently

Median- Find by arranging raw data in ascending order, then finding the middle number.

If there is an even number of entries, find the 2 middle numbers’ sum and divide by 2 for

the median.

Mean- Average. Find by adding all entries, then dividing by the total number of entries

Percentile- Score to base all entries above or below of. Find by adding all values below

the given score/percentile, and dividing by total values.

Class intervals- The width of each group (or “bin”) when you make a frequency table or

histogram. Find by first choosing how many classes to divide your values into. Typically,

this is between 5-20 depending on the size of the set, unless the question specifies. Then,

divide the range by the number of classes to find the width.

Frequency- Total number of all data value sets within the class interval.

Relative Frequency- Find by dividing class frequency by the total sum of all

frequencies.

Cumulative frequency- Find by adding all the frequencies together.

Class boundary- The highest and lowest class range added and subtracted by .5. For

example, if the class range is 10-19, then the class boundary is 9.5-19.5

Class Width- Range divided by total number of classes

Class limit- The largest number a value can be within a class. For example, if the class

range is 10-19, then the class limit is 19.
