Brakes ......ANSWER........Foot brake-Should stop your car within

25 feet if it is traveling 20 mph on dry pavement.,Parking

brake,Emergency brake,


Headlamps ......ANSWER........The high beams should allow the

driver to see at least 450 feet ahead, and the low beams 150

feet ahead.Headlamps must be on from sunset to sunrise, and

when visibility is poor.You must dim your headlamps if you are

less than 500 feet from an oncoming car, or within 300 feet of

the car in front of you in the same flow of traffic.


Brake Lamps (stop lamps) ......ANSWER........red or amber, should

be visible for 300 feet in normal sunlight, and they must be

designed to turn on, or to turn on more brightly, when you apply

the foot brake.

Tail lamps ......ANSWER........red, must be visible for 1,000 feet.

They must be on from sunset to sunrise, and when when visibility

is poor.


Parking lamps, ......ANSWER........white or amber, shall be visible

for 1,000 feet. The light need not be illuminated when parked,

but it should automatically show the presence of the car


Clearance lamps ......ANSWER........If you have a vehicle that is

wider than 80 inches ("Hummers" for example), you will need

more lights and clearance lamps. They shall be visible for 550

feet from the front or rear.


Optional Lamps ......ANSWER........Up to 2 spot lamps
