-John Locke - -created the idea of "each person is the owner of his/her actions

-Positive Law - -Law is simply the commands of the state backed by enfocement

-Jeremy Bentham - -creator of positive law, his head is also on display at UCL

-Historical School - -law is the expression of convictions of a particular people; different
nations have different traditions

-Sociological Jurisprudence - -law can and should change over time

-Legal Realism - -law is what police, judges, etc. actually enforce. i.e speed limit is 50
however you wont get pulled over for going 55 so the speed limit is 55

-Common Law - -each case is independently decided on

-Civil Law - -rulings on cases are established as precedent, playing a roll in deciding future
cases
