Volcanis
Origi
• Molten rock inside the mantle is known as magma.
• This is extremely hot and under great pressure inside the mantle.
• Magma escapes to the surface at places where there are cracks or weaknesses
in the earth’s crust or along the boundaries.
• Magma either solidi es on or in the earth and forms igneous rock
Intrusive forms of Volcanis
• Intrusive bodies are formed when magma solidi es before it reaches the surface
• These features are exposed through erosion.
• When this occurs a dyke looks like a narrow ridge of different rock: a pipe forms a
conical hill and still forms the caprock of a mesa or a butte.
• Karoo is made up of dolerite.
