, QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
Lauren has been tasked with leading a quality improvement project. The first step to
initiating a quality improvement project is to identify the problem that needs to be addressed and
those affected by the problem. Lauren will also need to identify what issues are being caused by
the problem. She should also need to identify what the goals of the quality improvement project
are, how she plans to gather data and the types of data she needs, and also identify the plans to
implement the quality improvement project and how to track and report the results (Shaw &
Carter, 2019).
AREAS OF FOCUS
The quality improvement project can focus on patient transport efficiency and
scheduling, staffing shortages, and reduction in revenue and patient satisfaction.
TYPES OF DATA GATHERED
Quantitative data is data that can be measured and is represented numerically (West
Virginia University, 2024). Lauren can gather quantitative data by logging how often transport
delays occur, as well as how often patients therapy appointments do not start at their scheduled
times and how long the appointments are lasting. Qualitative data is data that is based on
observations and descriptions (West Virginia University, 2024). Lauren can gather qualitative
data by using employee interviews.
DATA GATHERING
Quantitative data can be gathered by reviewing the transport logs to show how often
delays are occurring, reviewing the scheduling system against the therapist’s chart notes to verify
when appointments are starting and how long they are lasting. Qualitative data can be gathered
