PHARMACOLOGY
Pharmacology is the study of drugs their
origin,composition,pharmacokinetics,pharmacodynamics,therapeutic and side effects.
Its also the study of how drugs works in the body.
Pharmacy – preparation or dispensing
Branches of pharmacology
There are two main branches of pharmacology;
1. Pharmacokinetics
2. Pharmacodynamics
PHARMACOKINETICS
Its is the study of absorption,distribution ,metabolism and excretion of drugs and how processes
Absorption – It’s the movement of drugs from the site of administration until when absorb to
the bloodstream
Factors affecting absorption
Drug properties ;
Solubility – lipid-soluble drugs absorbs faster than water-soluble drugs
Ionization-uncharged drugs cross membranes more easily
Molecular size-small molecules cross membranes faster
Formulation ;
Immediate vs. sustained – release tablets
Liquid forms absorb faster than solids
