Week #1 - Lab Assignment
My Research Interests
Purpose: The purpose of today’s assignment is to help you begin identifying your research
interests and a potential topic for your semester-long research project. You do not have to
decide on a specific idea today. The purpose of this activity is to help you begin thinking about
psychological research questions AND help me to assign your research partner.
1. First, try to think of some general psychological topics that interest you.
- Complete the Qualtrics survey ‘Research Interests’ with your topics.
- The table below are some examples of acceptable topics.
1) Personality Disorders 4) Caffeine Intake
2) Neurodivergency (ADHD, etc.) 5)
3) Anxiety 6)
2. Now, try searching on some of the topics you listed above using PsycINFO and/or Google
Scholar. Find a survey/questionnaire for at least 4 of the topics you listed above. Be
sure that the survey allows you to operationally define a dependent variable and, then, be
able to measure that variable.
***(You may need to change some of the topics to find appropriate surveys).

report measure of beliefs associated with avoidant, dependent, obsessive-compulsive,
passive-aggressive, narcissistic, histrionic, paranoid, schizoid, and borderline personality
disorders.
