a. What is Information Technology?
Information technology refers to the development, implementation, application,
management and support computer-based information systems to collect, store, process and
transfer data to interconnected nodes to facilitate efficiency and improvement of business
operations. IT forms an important component of information and communications technology
(ICT), which is made up of components like hardware, software and peripheral devices which
together form a functional system. An efficient IT system enables efficient communication
networks, data management, facilitates coordination of an organizational processes internally and
with external users (FasterCapital, n.d.).
b. What role will Information Technology play in our plans for expansion?
Information technology is one reliable tool in the expansion of a business’ market reach.
Unlike the traditional times when physical advertising was applied in soliciting the attention of
markets, IT has today greatly transformed how businesses interact with customers. In essence, IT
comes along with diverse tools, such as digital marketing, e-commerce channels and other digital
tools that are opening up new opportunities for entry and expansion into global markets. A key
advantage of IT is that it’s not limited by geographical barriers, unlike the traditional mainstream
media used by companies to seek attention of desired markets. With the application of the Internet,
companies can go beyond limits of their local markets and vouch their presence internationally.
Equipped with the right machinery (digital infrastructure, skilled manpower and unique digital
strategy), a business can establish a reliable online presence, advertise its products targeting
specific demographics, and deliver personalized experiences to clients based in different regions
